Recipes for Homemade Protein Bars

  

There are many different types of protein bars on the market today, and they come in a wide variety of flavors. A protein bar can give you the energy you need to last you through the day, without the unhealthy aftereffects. However, they can also be expensive, and in these economic times, we must all watch our budgets. So, if you want to save a lot of money, you can make your own protein bars! Aside from being easy on the pocket, you can customize these bars and be able to control the ingredients as well, so you can cut down on sugars, fats or carbs or whatever you’re avoiding.

So, first for the basic recipe, you’ll need some protein powder, of course, fillers like oatmeal and/or granola and a binder like honey. Take about 2 cups of the filler and mix it with the protein powder. Warm up a cup of honey and then pour it into your dry mixture. When the entire thing is coated in honey, take a greased pan and pour your mixture into it, pressing it down so it’s well packed. You can stick it in the fridge or just leave it out to cool on the counter. When it has cooled down, you can cut it into bars, store them in Tupperware or wrap each bar individually in wax paper so you can take it with you.

Now, that’s you’re basic recipe, but you can customize it depending on your taste. You can add some dried fruits to it if you like, to add more flavor. If you want something a little richer, you can top it with some chocolate fudge or caramel syrup. If you want that sweet and salty flavor, add some salted nuts like peanuts, cashews and almonds. If you want a real treat, you can add some chocolate chips. If you’re not too conscious of sugar or calorie intake or want to make something for a real special occasions, instead of using honey, you can melt some marshmallows in a pan and add your dry ingredients, similar to rice crispier treats.
