“Today, I lost a dear friend and mentor, and the world lost one its strongest advocates of living a healthy lifestyle. Joe Weider was a titan in the fitness industry and one of the kindest men I have ever met.” Said Schwarzenegger

Joe Weider, who made millions from a fitness empire and mentored a young Austrian bodybuilder who went on to become a governor of California, has died.

Weider died of heart failure on the morning of March 23, 2013 in Los Angeles, California at the age of 92. The multimillion-dollar publishing empire he built included Muscle and Fitness, Flex, Shape, and Men’s Fitness magazines.

A weight training pioneer, fitness crusader, and magazine publisher, Joe Weider overcame the challenges of childhood poverty and lack of education to create a sports movement that changed modern culture’s conception of physical beauty and the way athletes and everyman exercises and diets. Through the magazines he published, the sports federation (International Federation of Bodybuilders) he created, the bodybuilding contests he promoted, and his groundbreaking advocacy of fitness for women, Joe Weider created a sports legacy that has a worldwide reach and affected the lives of millions of people.

Twelve years ago Joe was diagnosed with amyloidosis, a heart condition with which he was expected to survive about three years. Doctors credit his amazing fitness and nutrition ethic–until recently he trained every morning and made frequent public appearances–for allowing him to survive an additional nine years.

1. You can’t lose weight without exercise.

This myth hurts the process of learning how to build a perfect body for many who get stuck with this idea. I’m here to tell you that you can lose weight without doing exercise ten out of ten times. The only scientifically proven way of losing weight is calories in vs. calories out, meaning you have to consume fewer calories than the amount you burn. The easiest way to achieve this is through dietary restriction. The problem with trying to exercise your way to weight loss is that it comes with other variables that can hinder your caloric deficit efforts: eating more because you’re tired after exercise, overestimating the calories you burned during exercise and therefore assuming you can eat more, resting more throughout the day, etc. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying you shouldn’t exercise, I’m just saying that it is not accurate to state that a person who doesn’t exercise will not lose weight.

2. Increased metabolism is required for weight loss.

The word “metabolism” gets thrown around a lot in the health and fitness industry. Pay close attention to what I am about to tell you because this fact alone will save you a lot of time and money: there is nothing you can really do to increase your metabolism. Your metabolic rate is pretty much set by your internal organs (they make up about 85% of your metabolism). Some would claim that this statement isn’t true because you can supposedly increase your metabolism by adding muscle. The truth is that this would account for only a few calories burned per pound of extra muscle mass per DAY; a negligible amount. If you wanted to see a significant increase in the amount of calories you burn, you would have to add an unrealistic amount of muscle mass, which defeats the purpose of your quest on learning how to build a perfect body, doesn’t it? Therefore, if you see a product that claims to “increase” your metabolism, be cautious. Save yourself money by disregarding these claims.

3. Losing body fat and increasing muscle mass will get you to your ideal body shape.

This one is only partly accurate. These two factors are required in order to build a perfect body, but they cannot be done indiscriminately. If this were a correct statement, then where would the limit be? Where would the cutoff be before your fat loss and muscle gain would be considered too much and unattractive? The key here is gaining muscle and losing fat in the right places and in the right amounts. You have to be more specific when it comes to having the shape that you want.

So there you have it! If you remember these simple facts, you will save yourself a lot of time, money, and stress as you work towards your ideal shape.

Your workouts are progressing nicely, you’re doing everything right in the gym and exercising with proper form using higher reps and heavier weights regularly, but still your muscle growth is slow and painful, at best. Is a lack of sufficient sleep your problem, or at least a big part of it?

The Process Of Building Muscles
Think about the process of building muscles – exercise, nutrition and recovery. You tear down the muscles in the gym, creating the micro-tears that force the body to rebuild bigger and stronger. You fuel your body with the proteins, essential amino acids, vitamins and micro-nutrients it needs for the anabolic process of building muscles. And when you sleep, your body balances your hormones and uses that nutrition to heal and build muscles – your muscle building is almost completely accomplished while you sleep.

So even if all goes well in the gym – you’re using scientific principles and the latest research to craft your exercise routine, never miss a workout and spend a small fortune on protein and supplements – if you don’t get enough rest & recuperation you won’t be getting the full benefits of your training regime. Yet getting enough sleep is completely within your own power…

Getting Enough Sleep
Sleep deprivation runs rampant in today’s society, so you may think you just don’t have enough time to get 8 hours of sleep a night. But the truth is you have the same 168 hours a week that everyone else has, and 8 hours of sleep a night only uses up 56 of those hours. So that lack of sleep that’s preventing you from building muscles faster is actually a lifestyle choice, not a fact carved in stone. And like any lifestyle choice, you have the power to change it right away.

What stops you from getting enough sleep? For most, television, computer games and/or Internet social media sites burn up hours uselessly and keep them up later than is prudent. Each is fine in moderation, but study after study show people are spending HOURS a day at these pursuits. If you’re watching TV for 2 or 3 hours a day and not getting 8 hours of sleep, the answer is pretty obvious, isn’t it?

Your Simple Solution
If you believe you can’t get 8 hours of sleep a night, or that it’s not important to get enough sleep, you’re kidding yourself. Your entire day and your health is massively impacted by your sleeping habits. And, of course, that includes your efforts to build muscles – both the energy and endurance you need for your workouts and your muscle-building process are dependent on your body setting enough sleep. The problem until now is that you’re doing everything you want to do without limitation and then setting your sleep time by what’s left over – by default as it were.

Instead, set your bedtime based on when you have to get up. If you have to get up by 7am for work tomorrow, be in bed and ready to sleep by 11pm tonight. If you’re planning to sleep in until 10am tomorrow, start drifting off to sleep by 2am. It’s a simple solution that helps you get enough sleep to benefit your whole life and help you build muscles more quickly – and you’ll find your stress levels drop and your general mood improves as well.

Just remember no one else can make these changes for you – like everything that’s important in life, YOU have to make the decision and put in the effort to improve your life and live a fit & healthy lifestyle!

When we talk about protein beverages, we know they are capable of helping us develop leaner muscles faster. Unfortunately, not all the available products can promise the best results because some of them are poor in quality. This is the reason why proper evaluation is crucial when choosing the best whey protein on the market.

Remember that there are differences between low quality and high quality protein supplements. High quality protein supplements can provide the essential nutrients that the body needs. While low quality protein supplements provide limited nutrient despite their cheaper price range.

One of the most impressive factors on taking the best whey protein shake is that you achieve faster muscle restoration. Whenever you perform exercises, your muscles start to break down and you need to take the best whey supplement to restore your energy. It is important to allow your muscles to relax and absorb the nutrient to recuperate fast. One of the most important elements of protein is amino acids, as this can help the body repair the muscles for quick recovery.

Amino acids from the best protein can definitely improve your physical condition to intensify your energy. This is crucial in keepi

ng your muscles stronger to complete your routines effectively. In addition, with the help of the amino acids, you can achieve a precise weight loss objective.

In improving your immune system, the best whey protein can also help you achieve this particular objective. If your immune system is healthy, you will not experience trouble in completing your training routines. Furthermore, you can easily defeat health issues like certain infection, fever and cold. Your body improves because you have complete nourishment that can eliminate diseases effectively.

Definitely, when taking the best protein made from pure whey your body develops muscles at a faster rate. This is actually the most convincing factor of this type of supplement for faster muscle development. Again, the amino acids and essential nutrient will stimulate your body to perform the routines better without feeling exhaustion.

The natural antioxidant properties of the whey protein can definitely boost your overall health. Of course, you can only guarantee the exact natural antioxidants if you invest money just to get high quality protein supplements. If you choose to buy low quality protein supplements, do not expect to get the same nourishment like what most quality protein supplements offer.

When you consume the best protein, your body likewise digests the nutrients faster without experiencing unwanted health risks. Faster digestion means better absorption of the nutrients to keep you active and healthy.

The best whey protein likewise comes from organic or raw milk. Therefore, when you visit a local health store or search online to buy one, make sure to check the product label to determine the exact ingredients. Do not spend money if you reveal synthetic ingredients or harmful substances from the product. You have to find the most dependable protein supplement that can help you complete your fitness regimen effectively

Most people go on a diet because they want to look better. A quick look in the mirror reveals some unsightly bulges in the wrong places.

They have looked at this image many times until finally they can’t stand to look at it anymore. So they decide to go on a diet.

If you find yourself in this situation, you should review a few facts about how your body works so you can select the most efficient diet plan.

1. Lose 3 to 10 Pounds In The First Week

A well designed eating plan will result in the loss of between 3 to 10 pounds in the first week. You eliminate all excess water that your body is now retaining.

This fast weight loss is a tremendous boost because this much weight loss is enough to affect how your clothes fit you, especially around the midsection.

This initial weight loss is the result of shedding excess water. You must not salt your food, or at least use salt to a bare minimum. Salt is responsible for your body’s water retention.

It may seem hard to not salt your food. But if you substitute spices of your liking, and some hot pepper mix of your choice, you will find that they are a great help in eliminating your salt cravings.

As a side benefit, your daily diet will contribute to lowering your blood pressure level. If you are considerably overweight, it’s almost certain that your blood pressure is too high. This happens even if you are a young person.

The reduction in carbohydrates will also eliminate water from your system. More proteins in your food intake will also lead to shedding excess water.

2. Fat Loss vs. Muscle Loss

You must understand how your body reacts to food and exercise choices that result in fat loss or muscle loss. Of course, most people aim to lose the excess fat on their bodies.

They want to eliminate those unsightly bulges that were their need to diet in the first place.

Now, most diets obviously consist primarily in reducing food intake. However, since there are various types of food items, each one may have more of an impact on fat loss not muscle loss.

This is an important factor because it can greatly influence your overall appearance when you have shed many pounds.

Most men would probably want to hang on to all their muscle mass. They only want to lose the excess fat. This requires a special combination of foods, together with weight training.

Women on the other hand may want to lose overall body size. They may want to see that slim figure they remember from their teens. So they may charge ahead with less calorie intake as much as they can.

However, women should also know that to reach their ideal figure, they must also keep enough muscle mass.

Therefore, what’s important here, for both men and women is the proper balance of carbohydrates and proteins. Sufficient proteins must be included in the diet to maintain the desired level of muscle mass.

However, a reduced level of carbohydrates must also be maintained to reduce the amount of food energy. A shortfall in energy producing foods is made up by the body by converting body fat into energy, thus reducing stored body fat.

3. How Your Body Gets Rid Of Fat

As hinted above, the reduction in carbohydrates, the body’s main energy source, forces the body to turn to stored body fat to make up for the needed energy.

This is why, a well designed eating plan, combined with the proper exercise routine can cause you to lose belly fat quickly.

It should also be noted that because of the bulky nature of fat stores, even a 10% reduction in body fat will produce a dramatic change in your overall appearance.

4. The Nutrition Factor

Nutritionists emphasize the need for proper nutrition during and after a dieting program. They remind us that great harm can be done to your body by using extreme diets.

The suggestions above are given with this caveat in mind. You must provide your body with the essential nutrients it needs to stay healthy.

5. Maintenance Eating Plan

As a way of summing up, you must also develop a “customized” version of the eating plan you used to lose all the weight you wanted.

The reason for this is that you need a maintenance plan that will allow you more freedom in your food selections, but one that will not take you back to your old eating habits.

If you don’t take this fifth factor seriously, you will join the vast majority of dieters that after losing considerable weight, they go back to their old eating habits.

When you do this, your weight and excess fat make their ugly presence felt again. You gain all the weight back again, with some extra pounds for good measure.

Be smart and adopt a well balanced maintenance eating plan. You’ll just need to do a little experimentation with the eating plan that showed you how to lose belly fat in the first place.

The workout has been designed to train the abdominal muscles (abs). It suits both men and women. There are no particular requirements for this module; you just need to know how to properly perform the exercises involved.

PROGRAM

Perform this workout every second day (e.g. Mon-Wed-Fri) for at least two weeks. Then you’ll be ready to perform the next level of this workout.
Good Luck to get six pack!

HOW THIS WORKOUT WORKS

1. Working aerobically on your abdominal muscles for over 7 minutes stimulates the capillaries in this area. These in turn increase the blood flow.
2. A greater blood flow means a greater flow of oxygen – and fat only burns in the presence of oxygen.
3. Toned muscles need more calories (kcal) to stay active. Our organism tends to release these calories from the area near the active muscles. So it burns fat in that area.

HOW TO USE THIS WORKOUT

1. The module is designed to work the abdominal area ‘aerobically’. Performing it straight after an aerobic workout (e.g.: running, spinning, swimming or other aerobic activities) will improve the positive effect.
2. Learn the instructions for each exercise of this workout. Ensure you perform exercises properly.
3. Pay attention on the correct breathing while performing the exercises. It is very important and will help you achieve the best results possible.

The green tea is obtained from the same evergreen shrub that the black tea is derived from, however, its light processing method enables the presence of polyphenols like proanthocynadin and cathechin, which are powerful antioxidants. It is not fermented which gives it the opportunity to contain more effective antioxidants than black tea, consequently, the numerous health benefits of green tea can never be exaggerated.

Green tea is potent in preventing cancer due to the presence of antioxidants like the EGCG which reduce cell damage that can result in cancer. In addition, the tea enhances the body’s antioxidant enzymes like glutathione which can be very valuable in treating arthritis. Glutathione has the potency of reducing inflammation and breakdown of cartilage. Its regular intake can protect the body against a lot of diseases that are brought about by free radicals.

Furthermore, the risk of developing cancer of the digestive system, cervical cancer and prostrate cancer is lowered due to the antioxidant effects of the tea. The risk of heart diseases is also reduced because the tea can significantly reduce the cholesterol levels of the blood which would prevent arthrosclerosis and blood clot. Women in their menopause can also benefit a lot from this tea. It helps in balancing their estrogen levels thereby alleviating menopausal symptoms like hot flashes. Certain types of breast cancer can also be prevented by regularly drinking this tea. However, pregnant women should seek for proper counsel from their physicians before taking green tea because of the risks involved in doing so.

It is also useful in preventing tooth decay, enhancing air flow in the lungs of asthma patients, strengthening mental alertness, suppressing appetite in weight loss, among other benefits. It has also been established that the tea is 100 times more potent than Vitamin C and 20 times more potent than Vitamin E as an antioxidant. Antioxidants play major roles in the body as they sustain health, prevent diseases and enhance longevity.

Moreover, the benefits of green tea cannot be completed without mentioning its ability to regulate glucose which is the body’s major energizer. It eliminates unused glucose which is stored by the body as fat, consequently, losing weight can be greatly achieved by regularly taking this tea. The tea is available in various forms like tea bags, pure green extract supplements and so on. It can be found at supermarkets and health food stores everywhere but make sure that you are purchasing from a reliable vendor.

In this video we are going to talk about drop sets and an easy way to do them at home. Now most of you know what drop sets are but for those that dont, its an advanced techinque where you do as many reps as you can, then lower the weight, and without any rest, continue to do as many as you can.

Its a great technique for breaking thru a plateau when your strength gains have stagnated.

Drop sets are a way of going beyond failure but whats interesting is that many of you are using drop sets without even realizing it. What many people naturally do is when they cant do any more reps, they end up doing cheat reps where they use momentum or other tricks to do a few more reps. When you think about it, this is exactly the same as a drop set – just not as safe. Its using tricks to reduce the load on the muscle being worked out, just like lowering the weight does.

Another way you might be doing drop sets without thinking about it is by using a spotter. If the spotter is helping you do a few more reps when you cant do any more, thats exactly the same thing as a drop set – they are making the last reps easier for you by removing some of the weight.

To the muscle being worked out, all three of these techniques are the same. The difference is that drop sets are safer, more controlled, and dont require a spotter. How much to drop the weight? Try to drop the weight so that you can do another 4-6 good reps, for most people thats about a 30%-40% drop in weight.

Now here is a quick tip for doing drop sets at home. Most of us home workout folks only have one set of dumbbell handles and by the time you futz with the spin locks, take plates off, and get the spin locks back on, its too late. For drop sets to be effective you cant have any rest, so heres a trick that can help you do quick drop sets at home when you have limited equipment. Do as many as you can, drop the weight, then pick up one dumbbell jointly with both hands and continue.

Its not optimal because normally you would drop the weight by about 40% and not 50% but you cant beat the speed and convience of this drop set technique.

Now if you are using a barbell, heres what to do. Set up the bar with your drop weight and put the spinlocks on, then just slide the rest of the weight on the end. Do as many as you can, then slide off the extra weight. You need to be a little careful with this to keep the weights from sliding off, but because the unsecured portion of the weight is small compared to the secured weight, there is not a big risk of losing your balance.

Just a final reminder, this is an advanced technique and its not for beginners.

You could easily pull a muscle if you use this technique too early in your career. Its also a brutal technique and is not to be overused, I would suggest just one week a month.

Nutrition is an integral part of peak performance. Correct foods allow the athlete a new found stamina and power they never knew existed. Nutrition when used properly separates an average athlete from a superior one.

The mind and body, similar to an automobile, always operate at top form when fueled with the top fuel. Anyone who has ever participated in a sport will attest to the fact that their performance is noticeably enhanced by proper diet and nutrition.

There are actual ways to improve performance even more so by learning how to boost Serotonin levels in the brain naturally and maintain balanced blood sugar levels in the body.

Your game is as good as the body and mind you bring to it. There is no need for special vitamins or drinks to improve your performance when you learn how to correctly use foods that are already in your kitchen. When used correctly they will naturally boost energy, maintain a calm demeanor and feed your brain. This is incredibly exciting once you learn how to use foods to work for you rather than against you.

Essential Rules for Maintaining a Strong Performance:

1- Protein: Learn how to use protein in your diet (protein from whole foods, rather than powders or bars). Protein enables you to maintain balanced blood sugar levels and is the precursor to Serotonin in the brain. Have a lean protein with every meal and snack for maximum effect.

2- Carbohydrates: All Carbs Are Not Create Equal- Along with lean protein, the right carbohydrates are essential to create a strong mind and body and supply the proper amount of energy which enables you to attain peak performance. Always choose the good carbohydrates, such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables, preferably ones that are lower on the glycemic index (lower in sugar). Avoid simple sugar carbohydrates (candy, cakes and sodas)at all cost to maintain balanced blood sugar levels.

3. Good Fats: Extra virgin olive oil, canola oil, flaxseed oil to name a few. Avocados, walnuts, almonds and salmon provide good fats as well.

4. Avoid Sugar Substitutes: These chemical food enhancers interfere with brain power and often create anxiety and irritability. They will affect your performance in a negative way and are not in your best interest to ingest.

5. Hydrate with Pure Water: Even slight dehydration affects your game by slowing you down and interfering with thought processes. A well hydrated body is calmer, more alert and able to withstand stress. Stamina will increase when the body is properly hydrated.

6. Never Skip Meals: When one skips meals, the adrenal gland releases adrenaline into the body to compensate for lack of fuel. This chemical leads to feelings of anxiety, excitability, racing heart and may interfere with your performance.

7. Avoid Protein Drinks and Bars for Quick Energy: They offer a quick boost for about 10 minutes and in less than an hour one crashes both mentally and physically.

8. Retrain the Brain- Learn how to tame an overactive mind filled with unproductive/negative thoughts. Your brain determines your performance. Learn to talk back to that mind and train it to work for you. By doing so, you actually enhance your performance, which always begins with a thought.

You have much more power over your performance than you could ever imagine. You have the tools and they are all natural. These tools enable you to feel better, achieve peak performance in your game, not just “once in a while” but all the time. By making these few simple choices, you make the choice stay at top form, every game. These choices enable you to create a mind and body that remains in the zone, without the need for artificial enhancement.

Heath has put on tremendous size, you can see it in his face he’s coming in a lot heavier than before, but he doesn’t look near as conditioned as 2011. Kai is looking sharper than last year. My guess is Phil wins it, he has the aesthetics and genetics on his side, he wins in more poses than Kai, he simply is the better bodybuilder. He proved last year he can beat anyone bigger than him, but I think he’s letting Kai in pretty close to that title by not being as shredded.
