It’s a good idea when you first start out training to avoid isolation exercises. Your body is not conditioned yet and by just doing isolation exercises you’ll just fatigue those muscles faster and this can hurt your overall work out. For example is you start out blasting your biceps with everything you got you’re going to be gassed and not be able to work the shoulders and back very effectively.

For the fastest results you need to focus on performing the exercises under control with proper technique and mentally focusing on the muscle that you are working. If you are just seeing how much weight you can get on the bar, odds are you will have sloppy technique and will be cheating using other muscles to perform the exercise. This can cause injury and also slows down your progression since the muscle group you’re working on is not being worked properly.
